“I used to have thoughts of wanting to climb to the top of something, or wanting to be somebody,” he said. “But when you get the thing that you think you want and then you wake up and realize that you still have pockets of sadness, and that you struggle will reinvent itself, you stop chasing after those things and it’s liberating, because you realize that right here, right now, is exactly all I need.” — Chris Evans by Erik Tanner for The New York Times

I stand by my vague statements of a month ago, for the record, in the unlikely event that anyone was wondering.

Chris Evans for The New York Times

Tom. Of. Finland.

I am telling you:

Needs. More. Leg. Day.

Well … this could go a couple ways, you know.

This could be a period movie about a guy who goes to San Francisco on some sort of family business, then he Discovers Himself, then he REALLY Discovers Himself, and this is from the beginnings of the process of Finlandization. (And, after all, most of the people who inspired Tom of Finland or were inspired by Tom of Finland didn’t and couldn’t look even vaguely like the extreme muscle men with wasp waists and … er, other attributes that he drew.)

Or … it could be from a film about the earlier life of Tom of Finland himself. Who, after all, also looked nothing like the men he drew. (That is … a surprisingly close likeness, in some ways. Trim up the bottom of Evans’ pornstache a bit. Add about 20-30 years worth of aging prosthetics.)

I feel I could subscribe to this newsletter, yes.

I can get on board with this.

I posted the same thing on FB (”Hey, is Chris Evans playing Tom of Finland?”), and in retrospect, I may have led people to Google something they weren’t expecting.

Yo, tag me in there!
